Sometimes life just brings you moments that you will never forget! This episode is one of those for Eugenia and Gerri. They get to talk to not one, not two, but six guests on their first “live recorded” episode! As you know , they have interviewed some amazing people over the years, but this one is special to them! They have a real life “spaceman” on it, having interviewed many who have pretended to leave the planet this one really did! Did they “GEEK OUT”, yes, of course they did! They got to speak with Col Rick Searfoss, Commander of the Space Shuttle Colombia, what an amazing opportunity! That is not all though, they also interview the star of the new Australian TV show “Cleverman”, Hunter Page-Lochard, Dorian Gregory , from “Charmed”, and Malese Jow from “The Flash”! But wait, there’s more! Bright colours, fantastical costumes, and insane plots were a hallmark of shows from the sixties and Gerri and Eugenia talk about them in this episode! The sixties, an era of change, new freedoms, the psychedelic colour schemes and of course the music all combined to create new ways of doing things and TV was no different! With themes still relevant to our time of “women’s lib” and “diverse families”, Gerri and Eugenia talk about who could be called the first real woman super hero on television and a family that could only be called diverse and in all of the ways that you can consider! These shows of course include Batman and The Munsters, two of the iconic shows of the sixties they were fun, frivolous and fantastic. So who do they talk to about these wonderful none other than the first (in their eyes) woman super hero of TV the fabulous and sorely missed Yvonne Craig in an interview that they were lucky enough to do when she visited Australia before her death. Episode 110 – Superman Continues – Margot Kidder

Some characters just turn out to be iconic and Superman is just one of those! He has been round since 1938 (looks good for his age hey!) and has provided the world with inspiration, someone to hero worship, and some damn fine entertainment since then! Superman has appeared in just about every form of entertainment from comic books, to radio, television and movies and there never seems to be a “him again” moment, we just can’t get enough. In this episode Eugenia and Gerri talk about him in all his incarnations and they have an interview with someone very special. That very special interview is with Margot Kidder, who played Lois Lane in the 1980s movies with Christopher Reeve. These movies brought a whole new dimension to the Legend of Superman, with what were then ground-breaking special effects and again made everyone want to be from a different planet who came to Earth with superpowers! Margot Kidder is one of Eugenia and Gerri’s favourite interviews, with Margot not afraid to talk about her life “warts and all”. Every now and then the Antipodes does something fantastic and those little islands to the right of Australian (if Oz is really at the bottom of the world), called New Zealand does something fantastic! Whilst they could be talking about The Hobbit, Gerri and Eugenia are not! They are talking about The Almighty Johnsons, a fantastic and little known show about Norse Gods, New Zealand culture and with really cute main characters. NZ is a funny country, just look at the NZ Airlines safety instructions on YouTube and you will understand! Being the first in the world to welcome in the New Year, NZ’ers have a way of looking at things differently and they did just that with this show! They are a country of migrants and are very welcoming so why wouldn’t the gods like Oden, Thor and all those other wonderful, eccentric characters from Scandinavia want to go there too? This funny, dramatic and clever little show is one of their favourites and Gerri and Eugenia have an interview with one of the main cast the wonderful Dean O’Gorman who played Anders, otherwise known as Bragi, the god of poetry and in his present form (of course it would be this) a PR guru! He was also in that movie that was mentioned before, you know that one with the hobbit in it where he played Fili. All of us remember that time on Saturday morning when we watched the cartoons! Our parents happy that we were occupied and able to get a sleep-in on that day they did not have to go to work! So, if you have those memories Gerri and Eugenia have the podcast for you! Cartoons have played a big part in the entertainment that we remember from our youth and of course many of us tried to do the voices of those characters we love! How many can do the Woody the woodpecker laugh or the Bugs Bunny’s “What’s up Doc” and more. Well in this podcast they talk about what has become the branch of acting that they are most enamoured with “voice acting”! Gerri and Eugenia always say that when they interview these actors it feels like they are interviewing a roomful, of the funny, entertaining and talented! In this episode they have again three of what maybe some of the most famous voices from your favourite cartoons, Sponge Bob, Jimmy Neutron and of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. These are of course Debi Derryberry, the voice of Jimmy, Rodger Bumpass, the voice of Squidward Tentacles and Rob Paulsen the voice of the original Raphael and now Donatello in the latest incarnation of the show! Has Sci Fi finally made it into the mainstream? With all the shows from the Sci Fi and Fantasy genre we sure hope so! In this episode Gerri and Eugenia talk about the Arrow. This show is about a human superhero, no special super powers (except what lotsa money can buy), showing us what commitment and effort can achieve. With the newest incarnation being very dark and a flashback in each episode we have the past and the future of what makes and what happens when a superhero takes on the world. Arrow has many interesting characters with some of them even female, strong, purposeful and funny with one as the geek and the other The Black Canary. One thing that is nice to see in this show for Gerri and Eugenia is the Australians, with an Australian accent! In this episode Gerri and Eugenia have an interview with Manu Bennett, otherwise known as Slade, done just before Manu took on the role. Many of us have a favourite cartoon, animated film or Japanese anime and in that, we have a favourite character! As we watch the screen these characters feel alive and we invest in them, we enjoy how they react and how they come across as real, but, they are only (well up until now) 2D frames of some very good drawings hand or computerised and put together with sound and music! So what really brings these characters to life? Well, in this episode Gerri and Eugenia discuss that, they talk about the words that are said and the actors who make them come alive with their use of voice. In this episode they talk to some of the greats in the voice actor world with interviews with Steve Blum, Kyle Hebert, and Scott McCord but in reality they are now just interviewing these three but hundreds of characters from the world of the cartoon! One thing that Gerri and Eugenia go on about a little is why is Sci Fi not mainstream? Every big blockbuster movie in 2012 that has made millions has Sci Fi/Fantasy concepts in it! The Avengers, Skyfall (yes Bond is Sci Fi we don’t have the gadgets that he has yet!), The Hunger Games, The Hobbit, The Amazing Spider Man, even Brave (magic), Ted (talking teddy), Twilight movies, Madagascar 3 (talking animals) just keep looking down the list at Box Office Mojo to see! So why don’t these movies that make all the money get recognised, why don’t the actors win an Oscar?? The most popular stories are those that we have been reading for over 80 years, yes some of our super heroes are close to reaching a century and who said that senior cits are not interesting. The “best” movie winner at the Oscars in 2012 only made 10% of The Avengers take! However, Gerri and Eugenia discuss the point in this episode as well as that maybe they don’t win because there is more attention given to the special effects than there is to the story being told! Could we tell the stories better or are they just “Kapow, Wham, and Zap?” Do you agree with them or do you think that all the special effects are what bring in the crowd? In this episode Gerri and Eugenia get into cartoons. A genre we all love no matter what age we are! We all have a favourite from Saturday morning cartoons and little kids of today will have one they will remember and no matter what, will always watch it when it shows up again. So, which cartoon are they talking about? Ben 10 of course! Ben 10 has graced the TV of many of us either as a watcher or by osmosis when the kids have it on the TV and it has been around for at least 7 years and like Harry Potter you grow up with it. Gerri and Eugenia discuss the quite adult themes set within the show, the expectations of the hero and the doing for the sake of doing and not reward. One of the great characters in Ben 10 is the calming Grandpa Max and this is who they have on the show in this episode. Paul Eiding is not only the voice of Grandpa Max but also many other cartoon characters like Preceptor from the Transformers and Gerri and Eugenia have a great interview with him. In this podcast Eugenia and Gerri along with guest presenter Jo Shrapnel discuss what we all want to be and that is a Doctor Who companion. Not only do they talk about those that have gone before them (well we all can hope!) they try to define what constitutes being a companion. A show that the three enjoy (a lot) means that the names of characters just come out one after the other and even by the end of their discussion they still don’t cover all of the companions. The interview in this podcast is Louise Jameson, whose character Leela a “Sevateem” savage travelled with the 4th Doctor.
