In this episode Eugenia and Gerri have been able to “transform” a one interview episode into three!!! How did they do this? Whilst looking into their vault of interviews for a topic they found that they had three interviews about the transformation of an 80s cartoon series into a live action movie franchise! So, what is this episode about, well it’s about Transformers of course. The cartoon series that captured the imagination of many children and when they also got the toys that “transformed” from cars and trucks into ‘super beings’, who could blame them? They also discuss how CGI can enhance or take away from the storytelling of a movie. The interviews they have in this episode transport us from animation to live action and include, Garry Chalk, the voice of the 80s Optimus Prime ( Colonel Chekov in Stargate SG-1). Tony Award winner, Julie White , who played Julie Witwicky from the live action movies. Last, but not the least of them, Mark Ryan who voices the much loved Bumblebee. Eugenia and Gerri would like to thank Culture Shock Events www.cultureshockevents.com for the interview with Garry. Bill and Adele from Armageddon New Zealand www.armageddon.com for the interview with Mark and Daniel from Supanova www.supanova.com.au and Lionel from www.lionelmidfordpublicity.com for the interview with Julie.
All of us remember that time on Saturday morning when we watched the cartoons! Our parents happy that we were occupied and able to get a sleep-in on that day they did not have to go to work! So, if you have those memories Gerri and Eugenia have the podcast for you! Cartoons have played a big part in the entertainment that we remember from our youth and of course many of us tried to do the voices of those characters we love! How many can do the Woody the woodpecker laugh or the Bugs Bunny’s “What’s up Doc” and more. Well in this podcast they talk about what has become the branch of acting that they are most enamoured with “voice acting”! Gerri and Eugenia always say that when they interview these actors it feels like they are interviewing a roomful, of the funny, entertaining and talented! In this episode they have again three of what maybe some of the most famous voices from your favourite cartoons, Sponge Bob, Jimmy Neutron and of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. These are of course Debi Derryberry, the voice of Jimmy, Rodger Bumpass, the voice of Squidward Tentacles and Rob Paulsen the voice of the original Raphael and now Donatello in the latest incarnation of the show! Cowabunga Dude. Gerri and Eugenia would like to thank Oz Comic Con http://www.ozcomiccon.com for their interviews with Debi Derryberry (who is also a singer and has a range of children’s albums which can be purchased through her website. http://www.debiderryberry.com ) and Rob Paulsen (who does a podcast called “Talkin Toons” http://www.robpaulsenlive.com check it out!) and Culture Shock Events http://www.cultureshockevents.com for the interview with Rodger Bumpass. Gotta love those toons!!!
Many of us have a favourite cartoon, animated film or Japanese anime and in that, we have a favourite character! As we watch the screen these characters feel alive and we invest in them, we enjoy how they react and how they come across as real, but, they are only (well up until now) 2D frames of some very good drawings hand or computerised and put together with sound and music! So what really brings these characters to life? Well, in this episode Gerri and Eugenia discuss that, they talk about the words that are said and the actors who make them come alive with their use of voice. In this episode they talk to some of the greats in the voice actor world with interviews with Steve Blum, Kyle Hebert, and Scott McCord but in reality they are now just interviewing these three but hundreds of characters from the world of the cartoon! Scott is also a musician, visit his website http://www.scottmccordmusic.com to see what he is up to.
