There are some movies that are just movies, they entertain us and we go on our merry way! However, occasionally there are some that are just either too ridiculous (funny) to forget or just too much fun to not want to watch again! In this podcast Eugenia and Gerri discuss one of each of the above. The first is Galaxy Quest! Anyone who has been to a Sci Fi convention knows the truth of this movie, OK, not the alien and real space ship thing, but everyone of us that goes to cons knows someone who knows the intricate details of what is not “real“ (like a spaceship) and lives as if it is!!! However, it is a very funny movie and is a representation to non-con goers a way to understand the world of the Sci Fi fan. The other movie is Space Milkshake, a funny, weird and quirky space adventure with the most amazing sets for such a low budget movie. It stars some of Sci Fi & Fantasy’s icons including Amanda Tapping and Kirsten Kreuk, actors that have given us long time entertainment in their respective shows.
Eugenia and Gerri would like to Oz Comic Con, www.ozcomiccon.com and Blue Planet PR www.blueplanetpr.com.au for arranging the interviews with their guests. So, who do they interview in this episode, none other than Billy Boyd, who will be known to many as Pippin from “The Lord of the Rings” and plays Captain Anton in Space Milkshake and Sam Lloyd, better known as Ted from “Scrubs” who was Neru in Galaxy Quest. Interesting trivia about both is not only are they actors, but singers and musicians as well. Billy composed and sang the end song for the movie “The Hobbit” and Sam is a member of the A Capella group “The Blanks”. In fact for listeners enjoyment, Sam has given Eugenia and Gerri permission to include one of the group’s works, ‘Carry on Wayward Son’ in this episode. Check out their website at www.theblankswebsite.com and iTunes for more of their work.

Whilst the first ever full length feature film as made in Australia (it’s true, Google it!) the Australian film industry has had its up and down times. Recently that has been changing with the making of major films in Australia and what appears to be a robust “independent” film industry resurgence. In this episode Gerri and Eugenia talk about two of these “independent” films that have been made in Australia. Australian Stories told by Australians with international casts. These actors are from some of Sci Fi’s favourite shows such as Stargate SG-1 and The Hobbit, Star Wars and Mad Max.

Blue World Order www.bwomovie.com is set after a nuclear war has decimated the northern hemisphere, and the surviving population in the south become desperate. Society crumbles and an infectious bacteria threatens to destroy those who remain. Some of the films well-known actors include Steven Hunter from “The Hobbit “ and Billy Zane of “The Phantom”, Bruce Spence from “Mad Max” and Jack Thompson of Star Wars. Movie written, directed and produced by Ché Baker. In this podcast Gerri and Eugenia interview actor Stephen Hunter and writer/director Ché Baker.

The second Project Eden Vol 1, www.facebook.com/projectedenfilm/ is a dramatic thriller about a young woman who, aided by an ex-military officer, becomes an unwitting fugitive after she discovers her son’s catatonic state may be at the heart of a global conspiracy. The film stars Cliff Simon, Eric Avari and Mike Dupod all from Stargate SG-1. Directed and written by Ashlee Jensen and Terrance M. Young.
Gerri and Eugenia interview Cliff Simon and Terrance Young.

We all do it, we go to the movies and watch the actors on the screen play our favourite heroes and villains and walk away saying “Gee that was good”, and “Wasn’t … brilliant”! Yes, the actors do the acting and the directors do the directing! However, we have all seen those shaky sets, ad props the bad make-up/hair and the crappy fight scenes that we all think “Give me a wet lettuce leaf and I could fight better than that!”
However, if you can get a VERY GOOD Set/prop maker, hair and make-up artist, and a fight coordinator you know that you have a VERY GOOD movie. And this is what Eugenia and Gerri have for you in this episode! From WETA they have two of the artists that made the magic of movies such as Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Elysium and the Netflix series “Spectre”. Warren Dion Smith make-up artist and hair specialist (think of all those dwarves and all that hair, Warren makes it look natural), and Mark Dewes , props artist (this man can make a bit of foam look like Excalibur). Then they have Richard Norton, stunt and fight coordinator who has worked with Jackie Chan and on movies such as the latest Mad Max! So if you want to know more about the film industry in the “antipodes”, this is the episode for you with two Kiwis and an Aussie making movies for you! Eugenia and Gerri would like to thank Daniel and Lionel Supanova Expo www.supanova.com.au and www.lionelmidfordpublicity.com respectively for their interview with Richard! Eugenia and Gerri love talking with those that make the magic happen and you will too!
