For over 50 years Doctor Who has graced TV and Movie screens all over the world. It has not only brought us great stories, but also iconic characters who not only contributed at the time, but continue to do so in the Whoniverse. Including, Geoffrey Beevers who played that “oh so evil” character The Master and the indomitable John Levene who played the role of Sgt Benson of UNIT. Gerri and Eugenia would like to thank Scott Liston of First Contact Conventions for allowing them interview time with these interesting people. In this podcast Eugenia and Gerri once again discuss one of their favourite TV shows and that of course is Doctor Who! They talk abut how Doctor Who tried to up the anti and introduced what could only be called the “Girl Friday” of Doctor Who, who was trendy, and very, very talkative! This of course could be none other than the indomitable Jo Grant! Companion to the 3rd Doctor and who at the time was a member of the show as it made innovations in the use of “special effects” yes even with the use of lots of quarries, cardboard and of course monsters who even then looked, well the only word is funny! The interview in this episode is with the indomitable (in real life as well), Katy Manning, who at times calls Australia home! As Katy was in playing Jo, a bit of a talker she does not fail us now and this interview for Eugenia and Gerri is one big long one (but that means more for you) and in the listening you never know who may just pop into the interview, giving you not one but two classic series actors! Eugenia and Gerri would like to thank Scott Liston from First Contact Conventions check them out at http://www.firstcontactconvention.com.au for some amazing upcoming events.
Whilst Eugenia and Gerri do have a bit of a chat at the beginning of this episode they have what they consider to be a very special episode. They are able to bring something to their listeners that has not been heard by many people before and that is an interview with the late, great Jon Pertwee, the 3rd Doctor and their (yes, they are counting) 5th Doctor on their show! In this interview you will find out how Jon got the job of the Doctor, what he really thought of the Master, and of course his “Bessie” and the Whomobile and what he considers the best episodes. This interview is brought to you from the vaults of their friend Peter Budd, a long time convention promoter, convenor, and master of ceremonies at many conventions around Australia. Peter is also the founder of the Apollo Awards http://www.apolloawards.com which will be held at AMC Expo http://www.amcexpo.com.au held in Australia to honour Sci Fi, Fantasy shows and fans and don’t forget to visit the website to see how you can be involved. Peter has provide Eugenia and Gerri with his Convention Q&A with Jon. This Q & A in its original form, is a video over two hours long, so not all of the discussion is presented in this episode, but if you would like to buy a version of the full DVD contact Peter at http://www.apolloawards.com and which Whovian would not like this in their collection? Eugenia and Gerri want to thank Peter for allowing them to use his material and what else Peter is hiding in his vault for the future!
