In this podcast Eugenia and Gerri discuss how mainstream TV and movie awards do not seem to want to recognise the genres of Sci Fi and Fantasy, why? So; in this episode they look at movies of James Bond, Mission Impossible and Austin Powers and more and explain why they should be classed as Sci Fi rather than just Action or Comedy movies. There have interesting comments about the definition of Sci Fi and different opinions about the parameters of the genre. They have an interesting interview with David Faustino best known as Bud Bundy from Married with Children currently voicing the role of Mako in The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra. He talks about being a child star, his friendship with Corin Nemec (Stargate SG-1, Supernatural, Sand Sharks) who together developed their web series Star-ving, his music and how he supports new bands through his record label Old Scratch Records, as well as talking about his role in, The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra. This is an entertaining podcast and well worth a listen. They thank their friends Jason and Darren from Gifts for the Geek http://www.giftsforthegeek.com.au for the interview.
Eugenia and Gerri discuss the many years of entertainment that Stargate has given them over the years, talking about Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis and of course the youngster of the crew, Stargate Universe. This favoured show still resonates today with Sci Fi fans with its strong story lines and believable plots (well to us that wish that we could go through the gate!) and its Doctor Who ability to have major cast changes and still be relevant. The characters grew over the years (some even growing their hair) and with the use of Egyptian mythology set the show in a place that gave us familiarity whilst taking us to new worlds. In this episode Eugenia and Gerri talk to not one but two of the shows actors that made an impact Christopher Judge and Corin Nemec, the one that grew his hair and the one that was swapped for Daniel! The world of B grade Science Fiction movies is the topic of discussion in this podcast. Eugenia and Gerri talk about memorable movies that don’t quite make the A list of movies or even the C and D lists! They talk about Plan 9 from Outer Space, Starship Troopers, The Man with Two Heads and Slipstream just to name a few. However, there is one movie that they both rave about and that is Sand Sharks produced by and starring Corin Nemec from Stargate SG-1, Parker Lewis Can’t Lose and Supernatural fame and also starring Brooke Hogan (Hulk’s daughter) and Edgar Allen Poe IV who is a direct descendant of horror writer Edgar Allen Poe. In a very chatty interview with Corin Eugenia and Gerri find out a lot about his many interests and experiences being part of a growing television industry. Corin talks about his time on Supernational and Stargate SG-1, working with David Faustino on the show Star-ving and we also find out about his writing aspirations and talent as an artist. Their thanks go to Gifts for the Geek http://www.giftsforthegeek.com.au and The Hub Productions http://www.thehubproductions.com for the opportunity to interview Corin. Corin was present at Oz Comic Con in Adelaide in 2012 http://www.ozcomiccon.com .
